Ready to update the firmware on your Z-Box hub? Unlike other popular smart home platforms, Z-Box updates are not applied automatically and can be initiated by the end user whenever it is convenient. A change log is provided with the update so you can review all changes and updates and decide if the update works for you. The update is a simple process, and we've provided detailed instructions for you below.

First, you'll need to ensure you are logged in to the Web UI locally; you cannot update the Z-Box hub via remote access. If you're not sure, we've linked the local login instructions for you below:

If you attempt to update when logged in remotely, you will see a message in red under the update as shown below:

Updating the Z-Box Firmware

1. Once you're logged in locally, from the Dashboard click on the blue arrow across the top of the screen. When an update is available for the Z-Box, you'll see a red notification as shown below:

2. The available update will populate once you click the blue arrow. Select your update by clicking on it; in the option below, we are selecting the beta update:

3. Click the box to accept and confirm you understand that updating is completed at your own risk:

4. Once you've clicked the box, you can then choose to view the Change log by clicking View Changelog, which notes all the changes in the new update:

5. The Changelog will list the new firmware version, what's new, bug fixes, etc. You can scroll down to read additional details:

6. Once you close the Changelog, you will be returned to the previous screen. To update the firmware on your Z-Box, click Download Update:

7. You will then see a status bar appear to track the status of the download. Be patient, it may take up to 30 minutes to download depending on your connectivity.

8. Once the download has completed, you can then create your backup. It is recommended to always create a backup in case of any update issues. You can choose either a cloud backup or local backup, and you can read more about backups on the Z-Box here: How To Create And Manage Z-Box System Backups:

9. Once you've selected your backup option, click Install Update:

10. A notification window will pop up asking if you are sure you want to update. Click Update to continue to update, or Cancel to cancel the update:

11. Once you've clicked Continue on the previous screen, the notification box will display the status regarding the creation of the backup first:

12. Once the backup completes, the notification box will display the status for the system update:

13. In order for the update to complete, the system will automatically reboot:

14. Once the reboot completes, you will be returned to the local login screen. Enter your local login and password and enjoy your updated Z-Box!
