How to Create a Scene Using Standard Variables on Your Z-Box Hub

The variables panel can allow you to create more advanced scenes by adding, changing, and checking the status of global variables that can be used in your scenes.

The greatest benefit of the variable is that if you want to reuse complex trigger conditions across multiple scenes, you define the condition as a variable only once, and then you use your variable as a trigger with different scenes.

Standard variables can store any value, which can be set manually in Settings > General > Variables or from a scene.

For example, if you want to turn the heat on in the guest room if there was a motion in the guest room between 9:00am - 10pm. The variable is set to ‘ON’ when a specific event has occurred. Below we will describe how to set the variable and create a scene using a standard variable for this example.

1. First, you will need to define your starting variable value. From the sidebar navigation menu of the Z-Box web interface, go to Settings

2. Click on General:

3. Click on Variables:

4. Click on Add Variable:

5. Click on the Standard variable:

6. Name your variable and provide the starting value. When done, click Add to create/save the variable:

7. Your variable will be added to the Variable list:

8. Next you will have to create a scene to turn the heat on and set the GuestRoomHeat variable to ON, every time motion is detected in the Guest room between 9:00 am - 10:00 pm and heat is not already on. Navigate to Settings > Scene > Add Scene > Block Scene. Provide your basic scene information for the first variable and click Save. Define your Device, Time and Variable triggers:

9. Then proceed to define the actions. Once done click Save to create the Scene.

10. You will also need to reset the value of the GuestRoomHeat variable. To do so, create a scene to set the value of GuestRoomHeat to OFF every day at 8:00 am. Click Save when done.
